The route takes you through secondary jungle rich with birds and wildlife, along ridge lines with Pacific Ocean views, and along a stretch of Costa Rican beach where the horses splash through the shallows and the warm sea breeze comes off the water. This beach section is the highlight for most riders and makes for extraordinary photographs.
Every rider is matched to a horse suited to their experience level and size. The horses at our partner ranch are calm, gentle, and experienced with riders of all backgrounds: they've done this route hundreds of times and know exactly where to put their feet on the jungle trails. First-time riders get a brief instruction session and stay closely supervised by the guide throughout.
For those wanting to extend the horseback experience, horses are also an option for reaching the Nauyaca Waterfalls: a beautiful 12km roundtrip ride with spectacular scenery as an alternative to hiking. Ask about this option when booking.

Do I need riding experience for this tour?
No experience is required. Our horses are calm, well-trained, and experienced with beginner riders. The guide provides basic riding instruction at the start and stays with the group throughout. Complete beginners are very welcome. This is a gentle, enjoyable ride, not a technical riding lesson.
Is there a weight limit for horseback riding?
Our horses are matched to riders up to approximately 110kg/240lbs. If you have concerns about weight or size compatibility, please mention this when booking and we'll ensure the most appropriate horse is available for you.
Is horseback riding suitable for children?
Yes, children typically love horseback riding. We welcome children from approximately age 6 upward. Younger children can ride in front of a parent on the same horse. Our guide pays particular attention to young riders to ensure their safety and enjoyment.
