Manuel Antonio Monkey Tour
Home to three monkey species: white-faced capuchins, squirrel monkeys and howler monkeys.
Manuel Antonio's Three Monkey Species
Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most remarkable primate-watching destinations in the world. Unlike most tropical parks where you might spot only one monkey species, Manuel Antonio is home to three species of monkeys, a rare concentration of primate diversity in a compact, easily accessible park.
Our dedicated Manuel Antonio monkey tour focuses the full 2 hours on encountering, observing, and learning about these fascinating primates. Your ICT-certified guide doesn't just point animals out. They interpret behavior, explain social structures, share conservation status, and provide the kind of insight that turns a wildlife sighting into something you actually understand.
The Three Monkey Species of Manuel Antonio
White-Faced Capuchin Monkeys (Cebus imitator) are the park's most commonly encountered primates: bold, intelligent, and endlessly entertaining. They're frequently observed using tools to crack open nuts and have been documented in complex problem-solving behaviors.
Squirrel Monkeys (Saimiri oerstedii) are tiny, jewel-like primates listed as endangered and found only in southern Costa Rica and a small area of Panama. Manuel Antonio has one of the healthiest squirrel monkey populations in the country, making this one of the best places in the world to observe them.
Howler Monkeys (Alouatta palliata) are famous for their extraordinary vocalizations, the loudest calls of any land animal in the Western Hemisphere. Hearing a troop of howlers reverberating through the rainforest is something you don't forget quickly.
